Introduction of Head:

Prof. Dr. Amna Tahir is a dedicated and compassionate academician with a strong commitment to medical education. With her expertise in physiology and medical teaching, she has been an inspiring mentor and a knowledgeable teacher to both students and colleagues. Her leadership as Head of the Department reflects her professional excellence and collaborative approach to academic development. Under her able leadership, the department has been actively engaged in both academic and co-curricular activities. She recently successfully conducted the Physiology League, an engaging academic event that was well-received by students and faculty.

Additionally, under her guidance, academic sessions are being conducted twice weekly, ensuring continuous learning and academic enrichment within the department. Her dedication to promoting interactive and quality teaching has significantly contributed to the department’s academic atmosphere.

The Department of Physiology at Allama Iqbal Medical College is a cornerstone of foundational medical education, playing a vital role in shaping the scientific understanding of future healthcare professionals. As one of the core pre-clinical departments, it is committed to excellence in teaching, training, and mentorship.

This well-established department offers a dynamic and student-friendly academic environment, designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. Equipped with laboratory facilities and teaching aids, the department ensures that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain practical exposure through hands-on experimentation and demonstrations.

The faculty members are a blend of experienced academicians and young, enthusiastic educators, all of whom are deeply committed to student development. They actively mentor students, foster academic discipline, and encourage a research-oriented mindset. The department places strong emphasis on interactive learning, formative assessments, small group sessions, and regular academic activities that enrich the learning process.

The department also organizes academic competitions and co-curricular events such as the recently conducted Physiology Poster competition, which not only invigorates academic spirit but also helps students build confidence and communication skills.

Above all, the Department of Physiology functions with a vision to create a solid foundation in medical sciences, nurturing students into thoughtful clinicians, lifelong learners, and future leaders in medicine.

 

Objectives:

  1. To provide high-quality education in Physiology
    Deliver scientifically sound and clinically relevant content of physiology that equips students with a strong foundation for their medical careers.
  2. To foster a student-centered learning environment
    Encourage active participation through interactive teaching methods, academic discussions, and formative assessments.
  3. To promote continuous professional development among faculty
    Support faculty growth through regular academic sessions, workshops, and collaborative opportunities within and outside the department.
  4. To integrate theory with practical skills
    Utilize state-of-the-art lab facilities to enhance students’ understanding through hands-on experiences and case-based learning.
  5. To inculcate research culture among students and faculty
    Encourage participation in research activities, promoting inquiry-based learning and evidence-informed medical practice.
  6. To support academic and co-curricular engagement
    Organize academic events like Poster competition  to stimulate interest and creativity among students.

Goals:

    1. Enhance the quality and effectiveness of teaching
      • Conduct structured academic sessions for faculty  weekly.
      • Continuously upgrade teaching methodologies to include modern pedagogical tools.
    2. Develop leadership and mentorship in students
      • Foster mentorship roles and peer-led initiatives under faculty supervision.
      • Identify and nurture student talent through academic competitions and group projects.
    3. Promote departmental collaboration and teamwork
      • Strengthen interdisciplinary coordination and teamwork within the department to ensure holistic learning experiences.
    4. Maintain and upgrade laboratory infrastructure
      • Ensure the availability and maintenance of advanced laboratory equipment to support practical learning.
    5. Organize regular academic events
      • Institutionalize events like the Physiology Poster competition to enhance the learning of students as well as faculty
    6. Expand community and professional outreach
      • Collaborate with other institutions for seminars, symposia, and joint research ventures to enhance the department’s academic footprint.
