Professor Dr. Ayesha Arif is a distinguished Pediatrician and academic leader who has been serving as head of Pediatric department at Allama Iqbal Medical College since 2015. She is a Fellow of Royal college of Paediatrics and Child Health UK, Fellow Royal college of Physician Edinburgh and has an illustrious career spanning over 3 decades in Pediatric Medicine.
As a senior Professor and former Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof. Dr. Ayesha Arif has a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s academic and clinical landscape along with training of the next generation of Pediatricians. Her commitment to education and training is evident in her role as an examiner of college of physician and surgeons Pakistan, RCPCH (UK) and University of Health Sciences Lahore. Through her teaching and mentorship, she has inspired countless students and residents, fostering a culture of excellence in pediatric care.
One of her notable contributions is the organization of a highly acclaimed clinical review course, which she has been conducting for the past decade. This course has become a benchmark for pediatric training, attracting residents from across the country who benefit from the expertise of renowned faculty members and examiners. This course has profound impact on the training of pediatric residents, enhancing their skills and knowledge.

- Allama Iqbal Medical College houses the country’s premier Pediatric Department. The 81 bedded unit endeavors to provide state of the art care to sick children from all over the city, as well as referred cases from other units and clinics. The Department was established as a small unit with the inauguration of the hospital. In the recent past, the department has been renovated and the number of beds has been increased to provide quality care to patients and facilitate the best possible under- & post-graduate teaching. The main subdivisions of the Department are: Pediatric Emergency Unit, Neonatology Unit, General Medical Section, Isolation, Pediatric Outpatient Unit, Library & Academic Block. A Resource
Center has been established in the Department for conducting workshops on basis neonatal & child health care in collaboration with UNICEF & WHO. - The department is recognized by CPSP, UHS and PMDC for training in FCPS, MD, MCPS, DCH and MBBS.
- The Pediatric Department offers a great patient exposure, knowledge, excellent learning experience for under- & post-graduate students. There is active participation of the department in pediatric conferences and research work. Publications are regularly made in indexed journals by the faculty as well as the residents. For the last 10 years, Pediatric Intensive Review Course is being organized by the department once every year for candidates of FCPS Part II, IMM& MD exams.

- The department runs a busy 24/7 Emergency & Neonatology Unit. OPD services are also provided round the clock.
- There are 2 specialty clinics: Asthma Clinic & Neurology Clinic. In addition to that, services are provided to two filter clinics 6 days a week.
- The Academic block comprises of a Conference Room for post graduate & undergraduate classes. Recently, a Resource Center has been inaugurated in the Department for conducting workshops on basis neonatal & child health care in collaboration with UNICEF & WHO.
- For the last 5 years, Pediatric Intensive Review Course is being organized by the department once every year for candidates of FCPS Part II, IMM & MD exams.
