Department of Dermatology Unit II is headed by Professor Nadia Ali Azfar. She has previously served as Head Department of Dermatology Nishtar Medical University and Gujranwala Medical College. She did her fellowship in Dermatology in 2006 from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, CPSP. Since then she has been actively involved in teaching, training and research. She is a supervisor and examiner for FCPS ,MCPS and MD programs. She obtained Certificate in Health Professional Education in 2019. Her areas of interest include clinical dermatology and recent innovations in management of Dermatological disorders. She has been a speaker at various national and international forums. She has been a guest speaker at SARCD of Sri Lanka, Nepal, India. She has presented papers in European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology  conference in  Austria and Tokyo. She has served as International Secretary for Pakistan Association of Dermatologists and is at present Joint Secretary for the same. She is a member of Faculty of Dermatology CPSP and University of Health Sciences. She is member board of studies Fatima Jinnah Medical University. She has trained more that 25 students for FCPS and MD. She has more than 40 research publications to her credit and received a gold medal for research in 2013. She has been a Chairperson for Scientific committee in national conferences of Pakistan Association of Dermatologists and Gujranwala Medical College annual conference. Prof Nadia Ali Azfar has served as Chairperson ERB Gujranwala Medical College. She is a member Review board Journal of Sharif Medical and Dental College. She is member editorial board Journal of Pakistan Association of Dermatologists. She is also member of International Society of Pediatric Dermatology. She is co -author in a book on Management Guidelines of Skin Diseases.

Dermatology Department Unit II is a well-equipped Dermatology unit of Pakistan with OPD and Indoor services. It caters for the needs of a large number of patients suffering from dermatological diseases and emergencies. Skin OPD is one of the busiest OPD of the hospital catering more than 350 patients daily and more than 70,000 patients annually. The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is equipped to manage patients with life threatening skin diseases. Phototherapy section having Narrow Band UVB & UVA machines provides treatment for diseases like Vitiligo, Psoriasis & Eczema. Laser section having latest Q-Switched Nd:YAG & Electro-Optical Synergy (IPL + Radiofrequency) is well-equipped to manage patients with Hirsutism, Birth marks and Tattoos. Advanced therapeutic procedures like Microneedling, Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy & chemical peeling are being done. Diagnostic procedures like Microscopy for fungus & scabies mite, LD bodies smear, Tzanck smear & Skin biopsies are carried in routine.

The Department is recognized for FCPS & MD Dermatology training. undergraduate students in objective oriented discussions and tutorials. Rotational PGRs from ophthalmology, medicine and pediatrics are also being trained. Tutorials, clinical presentations and case discussions are carried out regularly for undergraduate and post graduate students. Student participation is being encouraged enabling them to acquire practical skills. Regular assessments are taken as written tests, DOPS and TOACS.

Departmental library & computer room with internet connectivity throughout the department provides conducive environment for learning & research.

Multiple research projects, including original research work, case reports, and review articles are being carried out and papers are published in local and international journals.

Our vision is to inspire students towards empathetic and  innovative thinking   in patient management and research and ensure quality healthcare delivery with care & respect.

Dermatology wards aim to deliver specialized care for skin, hair, and nail disorders in a safe and supportive environment. They focus on accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and patient comfort. These wards also promote health education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research to enhance care quality. Improving patient outcomes and overall quality of life remains a central goal.

Objectives:

The objectives of dermatology wards include early disease detection, appropriate treatment through medical or surgical means, and continuous patient monitoring. They manage dermatologic emergencies and provide training for healthcare professionals. Emphasis is also placed on patient education and emotional support to promote self-care and psychological well-being. Overall, the wards aim to provide comprehensive and responsive dermatologic care.

  • With the department’s collaborations with internationally recognized genetic testing labs, philanthropic support of Bait-ul-Maal and private individuals and above all with the help of its own self support, these diagnostic tests and treatments are being made available regularly.
  • The department is responsible for conducting lectures and engaging students in objective oriented discussions and tutorials.
  • Encouraging student participation and enhancing their soft skills via regular presentations tasks while enabling them to acquire practical skills via practical Labs. Regular assessments are made via written tests and verbal examinations.
